Spokane Outdoor Expo Presentations Feb. 21-22 2026

We have some engaging and entertaining presentations scheduled all weekend, ranging from hiking and exploring North Idaho and recreating safely outside in bear country to live animals including bugs, reptiles, and raptors, magic shows and more.

All presentations and entertainment at the Great Outdoors Expo in the Convention Center are free with your Expo ticket. Kids 12 and under are free with a paying adult and teenagers get a discount ticket. All presentations and entertainment with the exception of the skateboarding demonstration happen in the back of the show at the presentation area near the R’nR RV indoor “campground” area.

SATURDAY FEB 21

Rockin’ Reptiles Presentation
Saturday 9:30-10:20 AM

Learn about the fascinating world of reptiles by getting up-and-close with some live reptiles in a hands-on learning experience with West Valley Outdoor Learning Center. Gain a deeper appreciation for these often-misunderstood creatures.

Live Magic Show for All Ages with Matthew Van Zee
Saturday 10:30-11:00 AM

Kids of all ages and adults will be dazzled and delighted by this talented local magician’s tricks. Seats filled up fast last year so come early! Van Zee is an award-winning magician and performer who has performed for over 35 years at fairs, festivals, and private parties, entertaining people of all ages. He is a multi-talented performer, also known for his stilt-walking and prop building for local and international magicians.

Saturday 11:10-12:00 PM

Watch talented skateboarders and BMX riders pull off sick stunts on and off the halfpipe! Demonstrations happen both days indoors at the Expo courtesy of Hopper Skateboards, Yousta, and our sponsor Layne Stoops State Farm, your local Spokane insurance agency!

Explore Some of North Idaho’s Best Trails and Beautiful Places with Idaho Trails Association
Saturday 12:10-1:00 PM

Join Barbara Sammut, the North Idaho Program Coordinator for Idaho Trails Association (ITA), as she showcases some of North Idaho’s most rewarding trails—from family-friendly forest walks to high-country routes with stunning alpine views. She’ll share why these trails matter, what makes them special, and how sustainable maintenance ensures continued access to Idaho’s incredible public lands. Attendees will walk away with practical trail recommendations and ways to get involved in preserving these beautiful places for future generations. ITA is a statewide nonprofit dedicated to keeping Idaho’s trails open through volunteer-powered stewardship.

 

Bugs n Snakes Live
Saturday 1:10-2:00 PM

See tarantulas, amphibians, tortoises, lizards, and snakes up close and personal! Bugs n Snakes presenters will introduce a variety of exotic reptiles and invertebrates (spiders and stuff!) and give audience members a chance to ask questions, as well as touch and/or hold some of the animals!

Stonerose Fossil Site Presentation & Hands-On Fossil Experience
Saturday 3:50-4:50 PM

 

Travel back 50 million years with the Stonerose Fossil Site, one of the most famous fossil beds in the Pacific Northwest. Presenters will share the story of this remarkable site in the Northeast Washington town of Republic, where incredibly detailed plant and insect fossils from the Eocene era are discovered every year. In addition to learning how fossils form and what scientists have uncovered at Stonerose, attendees will get to see and touch real fossils up close. You’ll even get a chance to be a part of a real fossil hunt using a hammer to split rocks and search for genuine fossils. This interactive presentation is fun, fascinating, and perfect for curious kids and adults alike.

Hoot: Hawk & Owl Presentation
Sunday 10:30-11:20 AM

Discover the world of birds of prey and see some live raptors up close while learning about the hunting skills, behaviors, and unique characteristics of these impressive birds as well as the role raptors play in maintaining ecological balance in the wild. This live animal presentation by West Valley Outdoor Learning Center is a great way for kids and bird and nature lovers of all ages to start the day.

Playing Outside Safely in Bear Country
Sunday 1:10-2:00 PM

Learn about the bears we share our trails, natural areas, and public lands with. The presentation by Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife district wildlife biologist Annemarie Prince will cover how to recreate as safely and responsibly as possible in bear habitat, ways to avoid bear encounters, how to tell black bears and grizzly bears apart, and what to do if you run into a bear out in the wild. The presentation will also cover the proper way to use bear spray in a rare, up-close encounter with a bear.
